In our home we use these everyday for chronic migraine for one family member and periodically for other injuries. They are very durable & last a long time in spite of our constant use. We currently have about 12 packs of the 10 x 6 inch size that we cycle through each day & we only need to replace one maybe every 8 to 12 months with constant use. You can tell when they are starting to age by the gel inside starting to dry up a bit & it leaves a little air inside the pack. At that point we keep a sharp eye out for any signs of the gel leaking & replace them when that "dry look" inside is getting bad or when we see a leak. If they do leak onto the ice pack cover or even onto the pillow case it always washes out just fine. We use them mostly with their frozen option although we have a few times used them as a heat pack & they work great both ways. Be sure not to over heat them. They freeze very well & maintain their coldness for a good length of time - maybe an hour on average.
